ERGONOMIC BOX CUTTER

DESIGN PROCESS

ORIGINAL SKETCHES
In our brainstorming phase, we created roughly 30 different designs for what the model could look like and from those, we each selected our two best designs to move forward with.

FOAM MODELS
With the two designs, we went through two rounds of foam prototyping: one very basic round and one refined round. We improved our model from the basic to refined models referencing a rapid upper limb assessment (RULA).

USER TESTING
We tested on both right and left-handed users and used a point-based rating system to mathematically determine the best model. We moved forward with the better rated model that worked for users of all orientations.

FINAL PRODUCT
Once we had the final design we would move forward with, we each created a final model in CAD. My model includes a textured plastic material to ensure a strong grip and a smooth plastic on the bottom to promote smooth sliding.
